Teams from across the Leicester Tigers region enjoyed their Prima Tiger Cup Celebration Day with the club on Saturday 30 April.
The Prima Tiger Cup is the biggest and best under-10s tournament in the country, now in its 28th year, making this Tigers event older than the European Cup or the Gallagher Premiership.
Six teams joined Tigers for Celebration Day, playing in their matches on the famous Mattioli Woods Welford Road pitch, and then returning for the presentations at half-time and enjoying cheering the professionals to a Gallagher Premiership victory over Bristol Bears.
Tom Youngs, the former Tigers, England and British & Irish Lions hooker who announced his playing retirement earlier in the week, was on the touchline to encourage the players from his hometown club of Holt while Tigers Academy graduate Archie Vanes – who played in the Prima Tiger Cup with Ashby RFC as an under-10 – joined John Norman for the presentations.
Congratulations to the champions for 2021/22!
Prima Barker Shield – Market Harborough and North Walsham
Prima Fenton Bowl – Holt and Bingham
Prima Tiger Cup – Woodbridge and Norwich
“Clearly the future of rugby is in safe hands with these young players, and we’d like to congratulate everyone who took part in the Prima Tiger Cup this season,” said Scott Clarke, head of community at Tigers.
